About Blackpool Promoting Music
Blackpool Promoting Music (BPM) was formed in May 2008 by Buzz Burry and John Tree, both actively involved in many areas of the Blackpool music scene, focusing on diversity, inclusiveness and community.
We are involved in many aspects of local music:
The Youth music Co-op is a free rehearsal space for young musicians.
Blackpool Balkanism is a proposed community band playing Balkan and Eastern European music.
Fusion Fridays is a world music night concentrating on the groovier side and the more chilled side of the genre, along with live percussion, encouraging audience participation. FF has more recently been associated with local belly dancing/salsa dancing clubs, inviting members down to demonstrate their moves.
Raise the Galleon is a Jazz oriented night involving live music and DJ sets.
Tidal Beats is a proposed new community drumming circle based in Blackpool. Steered by local facilitators including John Tree, the circle will be open to players at all levels and is intended to promote community, fun and personal growth.
The Recovery Room is a more chilled regular Sunday afternoon/evening event involving chilled DJs, acoustic music, indie films, brunch, Sunday papers etc.
Buzz Bury has been involved in both singing in local bands and DJing in the Fylde area and the North West for many years. He more recently became involved in the education sphere through training young people in both DJ skills and The Arts Award scheme, before becoming a director of BPM. Co-founder John Tree has been involved in Fylde Coast
music scene on and off for the last 35 years. He started
playing latin percussion at 18, and has been involved
in many areas of music, currently drumming in four bands.
He has written and produced a number of solo tunes.
He started DJing in 1991 doing private parties and one-offs,
slowly building his skills. He now regularly plays a
number of festivals including Beatherder, Free Rotation
and Solfest...and soon to be booked for Musicport (TBC).
