Do you remember ‘The Galleon’? The late night live jazz sets; the cross generation mix of the ordinary but quirky folk; the weird but wonderful view into the world through a port hole; the late night venue without a label?
Does this ring any bells for you? Maybe you have some memories you would like to share as well as the opportunity to create some new ones? Did you catch an encounter with one of its many celebrity visitors after a show? Or maybe you managed to play a jazz tune or two with the late but great residents Brian Schultz and Teddy Corvo? Or do you hold fond those memories of dancing the late smoky nights away next to the ships wheel?
The BBC’s The Guide said about the Galleon: “a place not to be visited during the hours of daylight”
Latterly, it became more of a rock/indie venue, but it still managed to retain some of it's unique character.
Through our own journey we have found many people who look back on this venue with great fondness and it has been this that has spurred us on to establish ‘Raise the Galleon’.
‘Raise the Galleon’ aims to become a platform for sharing and building on people’s experiences and memories of a place that was in essence Blackpool’s only bohemian refuge. It is hoped that ‘Raise the Galleon’ could become the catalyst for igniting events and activities that recapture the experience and vibrancy that was the Galleon.
